Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA) honours late Reggae artiste Sugar Minott

Iconic reggae/dancehall artiste, the late Lincoln "Sugar Minott" and his sound system, Youthman Promotions, were recognised, for having an Extraordinary Impact on The Reggae Industry by Jamaica Reggae Industry Association (JaRIA), at its annual honour awards held at the Courtleigh Auditorium in Kingston recently.

Sugar Minott's daughter, Pashon, collected the award on his behalf and told The Gleaner, she was happy her father was getting the recognition he deserved, she said, "this sound was founded by my father, and back in the "80s, Youthman Promotion was one of the first sounds to start this whole dancehall vibration. We endorsed people like Yami Bolo, Tenor Saw, Junior Reid and the list goes on.  Daddy started it in 1983 for some of his friends in music, who were less fortunate than he was, and did not have the finances to launch their music career. Since he got out of the ghetto (Maxfield Park), he realised that if he had a sound system he could help others, and the movement eventually became bigger than a sound system and went worldwide." she said.

Pashon Minott praised JaRIA for the award but was quick to point out that Jamaica
Pashon - daughter of Sugar Minott
needed to highlight the work of icons while they are still alive. "I almost broke down in tears, because I was around during that time. It is certainly an honour to collect this award on behalf of my father, because I grew up in that yard with the sound system blasting, and we are still in that yard today. Two of the found selectors, Major Stitch and Tuluci, were able to collect the ward with me, and that was also a pleasure. This is only our second major award. We won trophies for clashes but we are getting our due now." she said.

Lincoln 'Sugar' Minott  also received the Bob Marley One Love trophy recently, courtesy of the Bob Marley Group of Companies and Clive 'Busy' Campbell. The Sugar Minott Month will be celebrated in May and his annual tribute concert will be held May 24, 2015. Lincoln 'Sugar' Minott died July 2010 at age 54 years old.

Well Hello UK! Chart shows "Taste Victory" by Nesbeth sending tremors in the region

Perch at the top of Jamaica Music Countdown (JMC) Top 25 Reggae Singles chart now 2 weeks in a row, "TASTE VICTORYby Nesbeth has not only been sending tremors across the Jamaican music landscape but is currently showing signs similarly across the United Kingdom as it reign on top of SFDC Radio Weekly Reggae chart ahead of trending tracks, Rock Stone by Steven Marley, Clean Like a Whistle by Chronixx, Steppin Razor by Christopher Martin, No Stylin by Protoge, Stay With Me by Romain Virgo, Richest Girl by Etana and African Princess by Tenza.

This is certainly not a first for Nesbeth who has had singles like Boardhouse and Guns Out soared across those regions, seeping into Europe around 2008. But having 'Taste Victory' off the 'Victory EP' seemingly walking a similar path and more effectively, signs like this are all too important to miss. Of course, one can appreciate how the artiste must have felt back then, a missed opportunity to greatness.

But what is to be must be! The prospects for 'Taste Victory' and Nesbeth's career in general is global. As concluded by some reviews, 'Taste Victory' is somewhat autobiographical, and employs a slight edge of rock music again, or moreso the fact that, Nesbeth turns hardship into optimistic Reggae Vibes are insights that suggest songs such as 'Taste Victory' is timeless and has become a motivational message of hope. Nesbeth will embark on his first tour across Europe called 'Victory' July/August 2015.
